German public television WDR cruises the Danube from Passau to Budapest. The video gives you some very nice impressions of the Danube in Austria, the quaint little towns and imperial capitols along it. I know, most of my readers are not really fluid in german, but the 90 minutes video contains beautiful scenes along the cruise. Warning: Video will start to play automatically.

The flood seems to be over, a lot of damage in the flooded cities like Passau has already been cleaned up. Unfortunately, some heavy damage has been done to the locks on the Danube river, especially Altenwörth in Austria and Gabcikovo in Slovakia. Both are crucial for river cruises down to Vienna and Budapest.

One part of the river cruise experience is that you just unpack once and your hotel brings you to another quaint town every day. But there is more, the beautiful stretches of the rivers you'll pass on your way. Therefore let's have a look on the few natural sights hiding in my database. In the last entry we dealt with the Rhine Gorge, this posting deals with the Wachau Valley.
